Artist to Watch: Mulaa Jones
My new Artist to Watch is 18 year old Mulaa Jones. Mulaa grabbed the attention of Sony and Universal after a TikTok of her singing went viral back in 2023. After back and forth with different labels offering her record deals, she decided to spend time focusing on perfecting her craft without the pressures of a major label backing. Instead, Mulaa decided to join forces with NWS Music Group. A publishing company formed in 2023 with a global partnership with Universal. This has allowed Mulaa to really take time to figure out her voice and what she wants to say with her music.
In September 2024, Mulaa released her debut EP '£70 For Peace of Mind'. A collection of songs focused on navigating young love and heartbreak. The project is a real canvas that perfectly displays her vocals with an effortless ability to capture influences from a wide variety of genres. It's no surprise that the EP was well received within the industry as she worked on it with a collection of talented songwriters and producers including Louis Mattrs (James Vickery, TS Graye and SG Lewis) and Ed Thomas (Jorja Smith, Sinead Harnett and Stormzy).
She recently released her official debut single 'Still A Little Something' with a heart-breaking tone setting her apart from her peers. This release is filled with the frustration and tension of wanting to get over somebody but realising there are still feelings that makes the break-up more painful.
With a voice like this and with the right team, it's only a matter of time for people to take note and realise that Mulaa is a real force to be reckoned with in the industry!
